2019 is packed with several blockbusters and smaller movies that are highly anticipated. Today, I’m going to look at the 15 movies I’m looking forward to the most.
15. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
After watching Won’t You Be My Neighbor? this Mr Rogers biopic is now easily one of my most anticipated films of the year. Moreover, it’s a Tom Hanks movie and this guy consistently puts in great performances and movies. Marielle Heller is an acclaimed director and I can’t wait to see what she does with the movie.
14. John Wick 3: Parabellum
The first two John Wick movies are some of the best action movies that have come out over the last few years. After the way the second one ended, this one should have even crazier action and that shot of Keanu Reeves on a horse looks absolutely insane. Can’t wait to see this one.
Glass is one of my most anticipated movies of the year. The follow up to Split and Unbreakable comes out in a couple weeks and this could be one of the best films of the year. What Shyamalan did with those films is extremely impressive. Furthermore, this could be the movie that truly cements the fact that he is the past his bad movie streak and is back to the good old days.
12. Men In Black: International
As a huge fan of Thor:Ragnarok, I can’t wait to see Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth reunite. In my opinion, the trailer made it seem like the movie is going to be a blast and hopefully we finally get another good Men In Black movie.
11. Captain Marvel
I know this may be an unpopular view but I really like the trailers for this. Brie Larson is an extremely talented actress and the rest of the cast is also great. Cinematography for this one looks great and I can’t wait to see Nick Fury again.
After seeing The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, I’m sold on Zachary Levi as Shazam and the trailers for this one look hilarious. I’m not the biggest fan of the DCEU but the director is solid and the trailers look hilarious.
Get Out is a great thriller and was one of the best 2017 movies. Us has a great cast with Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke and the trailers looked horrifying. Jordan Peele did a great job with Get Out and I have a feeling this could be one of the best films of next year.
8. IT Chapter 2
The first movie was such a pleasant surprise. It had great characters, good humour and some terrifying moments. Considering how much I love the first one of course this would be one of my most anticipated films for next year. Warner Brothers has assembled a fantastic cast and I’m glad that the director is returning.
7. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
Of course the Quentin Tarantino movie is one of my most anticipated. How could it not be? He’s one of the best directors today and his dialogue is always a joy to watch on screen. This will be Leonardo Di Caprio first movie since his Oscar win for The Revenant and Brad Pitt will be his co-star. The rest of the cast is also full of extremely talented actors like Margot Robbie and Al Pacino.
6. Spider-Man: Far From Home
I’ve grown up with Spider-Man so naturally a new movie with him in it will be on this list. Tom Holland is great as the character and I actually think he’s the best live action Peter Parker. Furthermore, Jake Gyllenhaal is one of my favourite actors and I’m certain he’ll do justice to the Mysterio character.
5. Toy Story 4
I’m a little mixed on this one. The Toy Story trilogy is the best of all time and I loved the way the third one ended. That’s why part of me doesn’t want this movie to get made. At the same time, I love these characters and can’t wait to see them on the big screen. Apparently the ending is comparable to Infinity War and Tom Hanks found it hard to get through. Even though I don’t know if this should be happening, Toy Story 4 is one of my most anticipated movie.
4. Star Wars Episode IX
At this point you may leave the list but I just wanted to say that I love The Last Jedi, especially what they did with Luke. So obviously, I have no bitter feelings towards Star Wars like half the fanbase does and I can’t wait for this movie. My only concern is that JJ Abrams feels pressured into retconning certain reveals from the last film. Hopefully he doesn’t.
Some will be surprised this one is so high on the list but I have a feeling this could be the Logan of next year. The film is not restricted by any continuity and has freedom to do whatever it wants. Joaquin Phoenix is one of the best actors today and the R rating should allow the filmmakers to show the darker side of the character. This is easily one of the most anticipated films of the year for me.
2. Lion King
The Lion King is easily the greatest animated film of all time in my opinion. What Jon Favreau did with The Jungle Book is insane and Disney couldn’t have picked a better director for the movie. No other trailer gave me goosebumps like the one for this did.
1. Avengers: Endgame
I feel like this is going to top most, if not all most anticipated lists. Infinity War was great and this is the conclusion to the first chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU is really what got me into movies and I can’t wait to see how they conclude character arcs and the Thanos story in this one.
